President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready to respond in kind if Russia halts its attacks, calling the ceasefire in the Middle East a correct decision, reports UATV English.

He made the statement on social media.

“A ceasefire is the right decision that leads to the end of war. It saves lives, prevents the destruction of cities and villages, allows power plants and other infrastructure to function normally, and creates the necessary conditions for diplomacy to deliver results. Ukraine has always called for a ceasefire in the war waged by Russia here in Europe against our state and our people, and we support calm in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, which opens the way for diplomatic work. Ukraine once again tells Russia: we are ready to respond symmetrically if Russian strikes stop. It is obvious to everyone that a ceasefire can create the right preconditions for agreements,” Zelenskyy said.

He noted that various countries were involved in the negotiation process and stressed the importance of the diplomatic step taken by the United States.

“In recent weeks, Ukraine has been helping to protect lives in the Middle East and the Gulf. Ukrainian expert military teams will continue working in the region to further develop security capabilities. The situation in this region has global implications: any threats to stability there affect the economy and cost of living worldwide. That is why security must be guaranteed, and the interests of every nation must be taken into account when shaping post-war conditions. It is equally crucial to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” he emphasized.

Zelenskyy added that achieving results requires active and coordinated efforts by the international community, and that post-war security must increase, not decrease. Ukraine, he said, will continue to work constructively with all partners.

Earlier, Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian military representatives are involved in consultations regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Ukraine also welcomed the agreements between the United States and Iran on a ceasefire and reopening of the key maritime route.
