Canada will supply Ukraine with AIM missiles to strengthen air defense and counter cruise missile threats. The weapons are already in the process of being transferred to Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense reported.
The issue of further defense support was discussed during a meeting between Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov and Canada’s Minister of National Defense David McGuinty. The Ukrainian side thanked Canada for its consistent and effective assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, UATV English reports.
The Ministry also highlighted Canada’s contribution to the PURL initiative.
“The latest contributions under the program have been crucial in repelling the enemy’s massive air attacks,” the ministry said. Ukraine also expects continued support from the program throughout this year.
Additionally, the parties discussed an agreement to support drone production and prospects for industrial cooperation between Ukrainian and Canadian governments and companies, particularly in the field of drone management.
Another important area of cooperation remains the training of Ukrainian military personnel with a focus on preserving lives.
“The parties discussed transforming the training system, including a shift to a model where top specialists train others, and gradually relocating training centers underground to enhance safety,” the Ministry said.
Previously, reported that Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and U.S. company RTX discussed accelerating the supply of missiles for Patriot systems and moving toward deeper industrial cooperation to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
