President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that possible sources of funding for the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine could include the NATO PURL program, the so-called “Mega Deal” being negotiated with the United States, and frozen Russian assets.
The head of state said this during a joint press briefing with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, Ukrinform reports.
Answering a question about possible sources of financing for the Tomahawk purchase, Zelenskyy suggested there could be three:
“One option is NATO’s PURL program. We are working through it, NATO is working. NATO buys various types of weapons from America with its own funds and then transfers to us what we need,” Zelensky explained.
According to him, the second possible source of funding could be the large “Mega Deal” with the United States, negotiations on which are still ongoing.
“The second option is to purchase directly through the Mega Deal. It’s a big issue — we still need to get there,” Zelenskyy noted.
He also said that funds for the Tomahawk missiles could also come from frozen Russian assets. “A good option indeed,” Zelenskyy said, emphasizing that it was still too early to talk about the number and possibilities of Tomahawk deliveries.
As reported, earlier U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Ukraine could receive Tomahawk cruise missiles if Russia refuses a peaceful settlement.
