After the end of the war in Gaza, Trump instructs Witkoff to “focus on Russia”

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that after the war in Gaza ends, the focus should shift to ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.

He said this while speaking at the Knesset during his visit to Israel.

In his hour-long speech — repeatedly interrupted by applause that at times grew into standing ovations — Trump extensively praised the negotiating skills of Steven Witkoff, his special envoy for Middle East affairs.

He recalled, in particular, Witkoff’s meeting with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. “I thought that conversation would last 15 minutes. Then I called him half an hour later — but they were still talking. I called again an hour later, and then again… They talked for five hours! I asked: what can you possibly talk about for that long?” Trump said.

The American president also noted that as of today, he can say he has ended eight wars in eight months — whereas just yesterday he spoke of seven wars — and reiterated that he expected Russia’s war against Ukraine to be easier to resolve than the conflict in Gaza.

Toward the end of his speech, Trump addressed Steven Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.

“First, we need to deal with Russia. We have to put an end to this. If you don’t mind, Steve, let’s focus on Russia,” Trump said.

As reported earlier, Trump believes that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin “will move toward ending” the Russian-Ukrainian war; otherwise, it will have negative consequences for him.

Trump also stated that he may inform the Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin about the possibility of transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if the war is not settled soon.
