The number of victims from Russia’s massive drone attack on Kyiv has risen to 18, as more people continue to seek medical help.

This was reported on Telegram by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“The number of those killed in the Russian UAV and missile strike on Kyiv has increased to 2. Another 18 people were injured,” the statement reads.

It also notes that a nine-story residential building in the Sviatoshyn district has been partially destroyed, with firefighting efforts still underway.

The State Emergency Service (SES) aviation has been deployed to help eliminate the consequences of the attack.

As reported earlier, during the massive Russian drone assault on the capital, falling debris caused multiple fires. Initial reports mentioned 2 killed and 11 wounded.

On the night of September 7, Russia attacked Ukraine with drones and cruise missiles. Air raid alerts were declared in Kyiv and most regions.

Following the attack, a fire broke out in the Cabinet of Ministers building in central Kyiv.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the blaze in the Pechersk district was likely caused by a downed drone. Firefighters are on site. Meanwhile, media outlets have published footage of smoke rising above the government building.

MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak, referring to published photos, initially suggested that the fire broke out on the floor where the prime minister’s office is located. Later, he clarified that it had started on higher floors:

“The PM’s office is nearby but lower down, so far from the official halls,” he wrote.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed the fire:

“Yes, for the first time as a result of an enemy attack, the government building has been damaged — the roof and upper floors. Rescuers are extinguishing the fire. I thank them for their work. We will restore the building. But lost lives cannot be returned. The enemy terrorizes and kills our people across the country every day.”

Svyrydenko also stressed the need for tougher international measures:

“The world must increase sanctions pressure on Russia, especially against its oil and gas sector. New restrictions are needed to hit the Kremlin’s war machine. And above all, Ukraine needs weapons — the tools that will stop the terror and prevent Russia from trying to kill Ukrainians every day.”

What is known about the result of the Russian strike in other regions:

  • In Odesa, the Sports Palace, civilian infrastructure and residential buildings were damaged. A “Shahed” broke through the concrete wall of a residential building.
  • In Kremenchuk, Russians struck the bridge over the Dnipro, and traffic was temporarily blocked.
  • In Zaporizhzhia, 17 people were injured in the evening. The occupiers struck again at night, targeting the same facilities.
  • In Sumy region, a woman was killed and seven people, including a child, were injured.
  • Power outages were reported in Kryvyi Rih, where three locations were hit.

About 747 UAVs attacked Ukraine during the night, along with ballistic and cruise missiles.

Russia launched more than 800 drones and 13 missiles, including four ballistic missiles. Preliminary reports suggest some drones crossed into Ukraine from Belarus.

Kyiv — Residential buildings destroyed, floors collapsed between the 4th and 8th stories. Two people confirmed dead, including a child. Dozens injured. The Cabinet of Ministers building damaged, with fire reported on upper floors.

  • Zaporizhzhia — More than 20 houses and a kindergarten damaged.
  • Kryvyi Rih — Commercial warehouses destroyed.
  • Sumy and Chernihiv regions — Fatalities reported.
  • Odesa — Strike on a residential high-rise.

President Zelenskyy stressed that such killings are a deliberate attempt to prolong the war. Ukraine expects the full implementation of agreements on strengthening air defenses: “Every new system saves civilian lives.”

“The world can force the Kremlin criminals to stop the killings — all that is needed is political will,” the president stated.
