Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stressed that the international community and Ukraine’s Armed Forces must exert maximum pressure on Russia to compel it toward peace.
Speaking at a press conference in Mississauga, Carney declared:
“Putin is the cause of this war. He still does not recognize the importance of peace. We – the ‘Coalition of the Willing,’ other allies, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces – must apply maximum pressure on Russia.”
The Prime Minister underlined that this pressure requires providing Ukraine with sufficient weapons, securing reliable security guarantees, and maintaining economic sanctions against Moscow.
“Allies are already preparing another package of sanctions, and the existing restrictions are having an effect – they must continue,” Carney noted.
He also expressed confidence that “Putin will not dictate the terms of peace.”
Last month, during his visit to Kyiv, Carney announced a 1 billion Canadian dollar arms package for Ukraine.
