Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Turkey is closely monitoring the peace process and supports approaches aimed at establishing a lasting peace in Ukraine involving all parties.
The statement was made during a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the Turkish Presidential Communications Directorate.
“President Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey has consistently sought a just peace since the beginning of the war and supports approaches aimed at establishing lasting peace with the involvement of all parties,” the statement read.
During the call, Erdoğan and Putin discussed the outcomes of the Alaska summit as well as bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia, including trade issues.
“President Putin also highlighted the Istanbul process and thanked President Erdoğan for hosting peace talks in Turkey and for his efforts,” the statement added.
The two leaders agreed on the importance of continuing dialogue between their countries.
Earlier, following the US-Russia summit in Alaska, Erdoğan expressed hope that a tripartite process involving Ukraine could help end the war.
