Ukraine pays its military salaries entirely from its own tax revenues, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said in an interview with BBC Ukraine.
“As of today, everything Ukraine collects in taxes is given to our defenders. Currently, Ukraine collects about $50 billion in tax revenue. This is our national contribution to the war. Meanwhile, Russia is spending over $120 billion on its war economy,” Shmyhal stated.
He stressed that in order to maintain the front line, Ukraine must spend comparable amounts.
“If we want to win, we need to spend more. Out of that $120 billion, over $50 billion comes from Ukraine, and $60–70 billion from our partners. We’ve emphasized this at the Ramstein meetings as well — that Ukraine will need $60 billion from its partners next year to continue resisting Russian aggression. But let me be clear: we pay our soldiers’ salaries from our own taxes.”
The prime minister added that the more Ukraine collects in taxes, the more it can pay its troops.
“As of now, everything we collect goes directly to our military personnel,” he concluded.
