Sybiha After Trump’s Ultimatum: Now Is the Right Time to Consolidate Anti-Russian Sanctions

If Russia boasts in its “cheap propaganda” that it is supposedly fighting the entire West, it must now feel the full weight of Western sanctions, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha in a post on X, Ukrinform reports.

“President Trump’s position on Moscow is realistic and firm, especially given that Putin continues to reject peace efforts. We value his clarity and resolve. Putin refuses a ceasefire, dodges leadership talks, and prolongs the war. He will stop the terror only when we break the backbone of his economy, which is already facing systemic issues, and cut off his war budget from funding,” Sybiha stated.

He stressed that the U.S., Europe, and the G7 must have the necessary resolve to act against Russia’s economy and called for maximum synchronization of sanctions among partners.

“The time is now. It’s time to consolidate a single, powerful sanctions fist and strike Russia’s war budget with full force,” Sybiha urged.

The Ukrainian foreign minister also noted that Russian officials have recently bragged about “fighting alone against the entire West” — a narrative aimed at their domestic audience.

“If they truly see themselves as heroes standing alone against the West, let them feel the unified strength of the West and the maximum sanctions pressure,” Sybiha added.

He assured that Ukraine closely coordinates its national sanctions with allies and works with them to close loopholes and block Russia’s access to sensitive technologies.

“In the coming weeks, there must be maximum synchronization of sanctions by all partners to raise the cost of war for the aggressor. We are actively working with allies to achieve this goal,” the minister concluded.

On Monday, July 28, U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intent to shorten the ultimatum for Russia to agree to a peace deal with Ukraine — potentially within 10–12 days. The issue of deadlines was also raised during recent talks between European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President Trump.
