The United Kingdom and Ukraine are signing a historic agreement to supply missiles for air defense systems from Thales.
This was announced in a statement by the British government.
The statement said the deal would boost the British economy and create new jobs, and allow Ukraine to continue its fight against Russian aggression.
The agreement will be signed at this year’s Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome, Italy.
It will allow for the delivery of more than 5,000 air defense missiles from the British company Thales.
Britain also confirms bilateral aid to Ukraine worth up to £283 million over the next year.
“This announcement underlines our continued support for Ukraine – strengthening its air defenses against devastating drone and missile attacks, and supporting the important work of rebuilding the country and giving the people the hope they so desperately need,” the government’s press service quotes British Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner as saying.
The UK will allocate up to £10.5 million for the Public Administration Reform Program and up to £1 million to support Ukraine’s Green Transition Office in the fiscal year 2025-2026.
Also, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that her country would expand its support for Ukraine in various areas, from energy to transportation and defense.
And European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that she would continue to support Ukraine and provide the next tranches of aid.
