On Sunday, police detained 45 individuals involved in storming the court during protests following the extension of Yoon Suk-yeol’s detention.
This was reported by Yonhap.
The Seoul Western District Court granted a motion to extend the president’s detention, citing the risk of evidence destruction related to charges of insurrection and abuse of power during the declaration of martial law on December 3.
In response, a group of protesters forcefully entered the court, smashing windows, throwing chairs, garbage, and other objects, and spraying fire extinguishers at police officers guarding the premises.
The protesters were part of a crowd of 44,000 Yoon supporters who gathered outside the court on Saturday as the impeached president attended a hearing on extending his detention.
Some demonstrators engaged in physical altercations with police, attempting to breach court grounds and ignoring repeated warnings from law enforcement about the potential for arrests or crowd-related dangers.
Since Saturday, police have detained 86 protesters and established a special investigative unit to probe the incident and determine actions against those involved.
Authorities stated they would deal “strictly” with those who violated the law.
