Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, has thanked the House of Representatives for approving The Ukraine Support Act and said she expects the Senate to take the same step.
In a post on Facebook, cited by UATV English, Stefanishyna said the House vote would help advance a number of bipartisan Ukraine-related bills that are currently awaiting consideration in Congress.
“I am grateful to the members of the US House of Representatives for their bipartisan support for Ukraine and for keeping the issue of achieving a just and lasting peace for our country among the priorities of the American agenda. Now it is up to the Senate,” she wrote.
The House of Representatives approved The Ukraine Support Act with the backing of 18 Republicans and one independent lawmaker. The bill provides new military assistance to Ukraine and introduces additional sanctions against Russia.
For the measure to become law, it must also be approved by the Republican-controlled Senate.
However, it remains unlikely that the legislation will be brought to a vote in the Senate, where Republican Majority Leader John Thune rarely departs from the policy line of President Donald Trump.
The bill reached the House floor through a discharge petition, a special procedure that allows legislation to bypass committee consideration. On Wednesday, six Republicans, independent Congressman Kevin Kiley, and Democrats provided the votes necessary to advance the measure.
Stefanishyna’s comments came as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio signaled that there could soon be developments regarding a separate $400 million military assistance package for Ukraine that has already been approved by Congress.
The funding is intended for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), under which the Pentagon purchases equipment from US defense contractors for Ukraine. The appropriation was included in the National Defense Authorization Act passed by Congress in December 2025.
