President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that at least eight strike drones were aimed toward Poland last night — the head of state expects that Russia will feel the consequences of its malicious actions.
The president wrote this on Wednesday on social media platform X.
“This is not an accident,” — Zelenskyy on the deliberate incursion of Russian drones into Poland
As of now, it is known that 8 drones have crossed the border. Ukraine is ready to provide Poland with all the necessary data and assist in building a warning and defense system.
The President emphasized that Russian aggression threatens every independent country in the region, and only joint and coordinated actions can ensure reliable security.
Zelenskyy stressed the importance of joint work by European countries’ combat aviation to intercept drones and missiles, highlighting that Russia must feel a strong and clear response from all partners.
According to Zelenskyy, Moscow always tests the limits of what is possible, and last night took another step in escalation — Russian-Iranian Shahed drones operated in Polish airspace, within NATO airspace.
“Not a single ‘Shahed,’ which could be considered accidental, but at least eight strike drones aimed at Poland. An extremely dangerous precedent for Europe,” the president commented.
He added that any next steps will entirely depend on the coordination and strength of the response.
“Russians must feel the consequences. Russia must understand that the war cannot be expanded and must be ended,” Zelenskyy said.
He emphasized that the sanctions pause has lasted too long, and delaying restrictions on Russia and its allies only increases the severity of attacks.
“There needs to be enough weapons to deter Russia. A strong response is needed, and it can only be a joint response from all partners: Ukraine, Poland, all Europeans, and the United States,” Zelenskyy added.
Earlier on Wednesday, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on the West to make a decision to use neighboring countries’ air defense systems to shoot down targets while still over Ukraine.
Sybiha also stated that a weak response to the Russian drone incursion into Poland would provoke Russia even further.
On the night of September 10, Poland confirmed a violation of its airspace by Russian UAVs during a massive attack on Ukraine and, for the first time, decided to shoot them down. The military warned citizens about increased threats in the Mazovian, Podlaskie, and Lublin voivodeships.
Ukraine has information about eight Russian drones that violated Polish airspace on the night leading into Wednesday and is ready to share it with the Polish side.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, wrote on social media.
He said that more and more evidence points to the deliberate nature of this strike.
“There have been previous incidents with individual Russian drones crossing the border and covering a short distance on neighboring territory. But now we see a much larger scale and clear intent,” Zelenskyy noted.
“Ukraine is ready to provide Poland with the necessary data on this Russian strike. Ukraine is ready to help Poland build an appropriate warning and defense system against such Russian threats,” he added.
According to him, Ukraine has long proposed to its partners to create a joint air defense system to ensure the guaranteed interception of Shaheds, other drones, and missiles through combined combat aviation and air defense power.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated on Wednesday that, for the first time, Russian drones were shot down over NATO territory last night, but said there is no reason for panic.
EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas called the Russian drone strike on Poland a deliberate and the most serious violation of EU member state airspace by Russia.
NATO does not consider the Russian drone incursion into Poland last night to be an attack on an Alliance member state.
