By changing the elites, Vladimir Putin showed the old ones that he could destroy them at any moment, which actually brought closer the possibility of a coup. This opinion was expressed on the FREEDOM TV channel by a former employee of the KGB of the USSR and the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Sergei Zhirnov, commenting on the change of the highest military command in Russia.
He believes that for Putin there is no elite; the Russian dictator despises absolutely everyone.
“Putin considers himself smarter, more beautiful and richer than everyone else put together, which is why for him they are such a conditional elite,” noted Zhirnov.
According to him, when the head of the Kremlin said that the “new elite” are “members of the Northern Military District,” he took a dangerous step.
“Because Putin thus showed all the old elites that he could destroy them at any moment. And thus, by the way, he potentially even brought closer the possibility of a coup d’etat and a military coup in the Kremlin, because people who realized that they were now threatened with almost destruction and ruin, that some new fellows from a “special military operation” would come To take away everything they have stolen from them, they may try to get ahead of events and destroy Putin. So in this sense, Putin made a very big mistake, I hope,” the former intelligence officer opined.

Let us recall that Russian opposition politician Dmitry Gudkov expressed the opinion that repression in Russia after the elections will intensify and affect the elites, because Vladimir Putin needs to demonstrate strength and control.
