An Iranian attack on Israel on its own, without resorting to proxy groups, is an unprecedented event. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia could probably provide Tehran with certain guarantees. International political scientist Vera Konstantinova stated this on the FREEDOM TV channel.

“The attack is definitely unprecedented – Iran attacked directly from its territory. It is a fact. At the same time, there is a country that covers it: Russia is a permanent member of the UN Security Council. And, it seems to me, it provided some guarantees to the Iranian regime,” she said.

According to her, Moscow may have given guarantees in the context of sanctions related to the nuclear program against the Iranian regime.

“Russia will definitely veto. And here we return to the fact that it is necessary to solve the problem with the UN Security Council and the problem of reforming the Security Council from the point of view of new geopolitical realities. Because without this, we will witness problems that are, in principle, brewing in the Asia-Pacific region,” the international political scientist emphasized.

Konstantinova noted that it is important not to forget about North Korea, which is also classified as an “axis of evil” and is capable of attacking South Korea at any moment.

“Again, we will hear nothing but general concern. In this regard, I think that Iran has what is called a guarantee that the world community will not impose sanctions on it. This means that, in addition to the United States and the European Union, other countries of the world can, at their own discretion, cooperate or not cooperate with the same Iranian regime through its proxies, which Russia uses very well in its practice against Ukraine,” Vera Konstantinova concluded.
