The House of Representatives of the US Congress has supported a bill regarding the provision of military and financial assistance to Ukraine amounting to nearly $61 billion. On the evening of April 20, this decision was supported by 311 members of the House — 210 Democrats and 101 Republicans, as reported by CNN.

Within the first minute of voting, the bill garnered over 300 necessary votes in favour. After the decision was made, the chamber echoed with thunderous applause and chants of “Ukraine! Ukraine! Ukraine!” from the pro-Ukrainian faction of senators.

The next step to finalize aid for Ukraine is a vote on this bill in the Senate, scheduled for Tuesday. Following this, the document will be sent for President Joe Biden’s signature, who has already stated he will sign it immediately upon Senate approval.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon has stated that they are ready to send necessary arms and ammunition to Ukraine and are only awaiting the President of the United States’ signature.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the adoption of this critically important decision for the Ukrainian state and expressed hope that the Senate’s consideration of the package and its submission to President Joe Biden for signing will be “sufficiently swift.”

“We appreciate every show of support for our state and independence, for our people and the life of ours that Russia so desires to bury in ruins. America has shown its leadership from the very first days of the war. Such American leadership is crucial for maintaining international order based on rules and predictability of life for all nations,” said the President of Ukraine.

In addition to the bill supporting Ukraine, on Saturday evening, the US Senate passed several other decisions. Among them were bills supporting Taiwan with $8.1 billion (385 votes in favour), aid to Israel with $26.4 billion (366 votes in favour), and a bill related to a possible TikTok ban, sanctions against Russia and Iran, and the confiscation of frozen Russian assets in favour of Ukraine (360 votes in favour).

The Gaze previously reported that the bill supporting Ukraine includes over $13.8 billion for the purchase of modern military equipment and other defence-related goods and services, and over $23 billion for the modernization of the American arsenal, part of which may later be transferred to Ukraine. Additionally, the Foreign Military Financing program allocates $1.6 billion for the purchase of arms from foreign producers.

The document also calls on the President of the United States to provide long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine.
