Ukraine and the United Kingdom have agreed to create a working group that will coordinate joint projects under the LYRA programme — a partnership on battlefield technologies.

The announcement was made by Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal on Facebook following the DFNC3 International Defence Industries Forum, where a statement of intent was signed between the UK’s Defence Ministerial Office and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine regarding the LYRA partnership.

“On the sidelines of the DFNC3 International Defence Industries Forum, a statement of intent was signed between the UK’s Ministerial Defence Office and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine on the LYRA programme — a partnership in battlefield technologies,” Shmyhal wrote.

The document sets out the parties’ intention to jointly develop and scale defence technologies, combining Ukrainian and British defence-industrial and scientific potential to enable co-development, modernization, and scaled production of required weapons systems.

The LYRA partnership aims to strengthen the defence capabilities of both countries by pooling expertise and industrial capacity. In addition to LYRA, the parties also signed a project agreement on joint artillery production with the United Kingdom.

Shmyhal thanked the UK for its significant contributions to Ukraine’s defence and emphasized:

“Together we strengthen the security of all Europe.”

As reported, Ukrainian Defence Industry JSC signed a number of agreements with international partners at DFNC3, including a deal with Spanish combat-module maker Escribano.
