The United Kingdom has announced a new round of sanctions against Russia in response to its ongoing war in Ukraine.
The move was detailed in a statement published on the official government website.
According to the statement, the sanctions target four individuals, six entities, and 20 vessels — including oil tankers, maritime companies, and suppliers of goods to Russia, particularly electronic components.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the UK has sanctioned more than 2,300 individuals, organizations, and ships.
On Tuesday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to deliver a speech declaring that “Russia doesn’t hold all the cards” and urging allies to “seize this moment to intensify economic pressure” on the Kremlin.
Notably, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested on Monday that he may not impose additional sanctions on Russia, arguing that European countries should “go first” and that “sanctions cost us a lot of money.”
Following his remarks, Trump left the G7 summit in Canada a day early.
French President Emmanuel Macron, however, said he still believes Washington could support tougher sanctions on Russia, despite Trump’s comments.
