Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Lithuania had warned several years ago that Hungarian officials posed a security threat within NATO.
He made the remarks while speaking to the media ahead of a government meeting, Reuters reports, according to UATV English.
The Polish prime minister noted that information had been coming “from various sources over a long period of time” regarding the leakage of data from closed EU meetings to Moscow, along with suspicions that information from NATO had also been transmitted.
“Back in 2019, Lithuania demanded the exclusion of the Hungarian delegation from NATO meetings, stating that there were suspicions that the Hungarian delegation would pass top-secret information to Moscow,” Tusk said.
Tusk’s comments come after The Washington Post previously reported that Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó had regularly provided Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with “live reports” on discussions held during EU meetings, including information on potential decisions.
Szijjártó later confirmed that he maintains regular contact with Lavrov during closed EU meetings.
Media reports have also indicated that the European Union has excluded Hungary from sensitive negotiations due to concerns over potential leaks to Russia.
