U.S. President Donald Trump, during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday at the White House, stated that the United States seeks to bring the war to an end and sees signs of progress in that direction.

“President Zelenskyy has been through a lot — and we’ve been through it with him, to be honest. It’s been going on for a long time, and I think we’re making great progress,” Trump told reporters.

He noted that he had spoken the day before with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said that the issue of ending the war would be discussed during his meeting with the Ukrainian leader.

“We’re going to talk about what happened yesterday — about my phone conversation with President Putin — and I think things are going quite well,” the White House chief said.

Trump added that the process “started back in Alaska, where, I believe, certain benchmarks were discussed.” He also reiterated that the current situation dates back “to the time of (President Joe) Biden’s administration.”

“We inherited this, and we’d like to see if we can bring it to an end… We want it to end. So many people have died in this war, and we’re going to put an end to it,” Trump emphasized.

As reported earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska gave the Russian leader what he wanted.
