Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said Sweden is ready to provide Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine and resources for demining the Black Sea after a peace agreement with Russia is signed, UATV English informs.
He wrote about this on X.
Kristersson announced the decision following a meeting of the “coalition of the willing” in Paris. He stressed that once a peace agreement is reached in Ukraine, Sweden is “ready to contribute to security guarantees for Ukraine and the rest of Europe.”
Accordingly, the Swedish prime minister said his country is prepared to help “maintain peace in Ukraine”, including through:
- Gripen fighter jets for air surveillance over Ukraine;
- naval assets for demining the Black Sea;
- continued training of Ukrainian military officers.
At the same time, he emphasized that a peace agreement, clear rules of engagement for multinational forces, and formal approval by the Swedish parliament are necessary conditions.
“Sweden is ready to contribute to peace in Europe,” Kristersson concluded.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a declaration of intent on the possible deployment of troops in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.
President Zelenskyy also said that substantive talks are underway with the U.S. team on monitoring potential violations of peace after an agreement is reached.
Members of the coalition of the willing, Ukraine, and the United States have signed a joint declaration on security guarantees aimed at ensuring a stable and lasting peace in Ukraine.
