State of emergency introduced in the capital of Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on the introduction of a state of emergency in the capital of Kazakhstan, the city of Nur-Sultan.

This was reported by UA with reference to the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.

The state of emergency was introduced until January 19.

“In order to ensure the safety of the population of the city of Nur-Sultan, in accordance with subparagraph 16) of Article 44 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Articles 4, 5, 6 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On the State of Emergency”I decide: in connection with a serious and immediate threat to the safety of citizens in order to ensure public safety, restoration of law and order, protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, introduce a state of emergency within the boundaries of the city of Nur-Sultan for the period from 16:00 on January 5, 2022 for a period of up to 00:00 on January 19, 2022” – the decree says.

To remind, in Kazakhstan, in the Mangistau region, on January 2, protests broke out against a 2-2.5-fold increase in the price of liquefied gas – up to 120 tenge (USD 0.28). Then thousands of people went to rallies, in particular, in the largest cities of the region, Zhanaozen and Aktau. The demonstrators announced an open-ended action.
