Employees of a pre-trial detention center in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don seized the medication of an illegally detained Crimean Tatar activist, one of the defendants of the “Hizb ut-Tahrir case,” Timur Ibragimov, after he arrived there from Simferopol, the online news outlet Crimea.Realities reported. This information was relayed by his mother, Niyara Ibragimova.
“Timur said that on the day of arrival at the Rostov pre-trial detention center, they took away all the medications he needs and still haven’t given it back. Timur also said that he did not undergo a medical examination, arguing that he allegedly wrote a written denial, which, of course, was not written by him and was signed by someone else. Why all this has been done remains unclear to me,” said Niyara Ibragimova during a meeting organized by the human rights initiative Crimean Solidarity.
The administration of the facility has not given a comment yet, the article states.
The southern military court of the city of Rosov-on-Don launched hearings on merits of the so-called “second Bakhchysarai group of the Hizb ut-Tahrir case” on November 15, 2019.
Russian security forces arrested six residents of Bakhchysarai in October 2017. Timur Ibragimov, Marlen Asanov, Memet Belyalov, Seyran Saliev, Server Zekiryaev and Ernes Ametov are accused of involvement in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization, a terrorist organization under Russian law.
On May 21, 2018, the coordinator of Crimean Solidarity, Server Mustafayev, and Edem Smailov, a resident of the village of Dolinnoye, Bakhchysarai District, were detained in Crimea. Their cases were attached to the same case.
Occupation authorities and those in Crimea under their control are using this case to suppress Crimean Tatar people who oppose the illegal annexation by Russia of the peninsula.
