Shevchenko is a famous Ukrainian poet, artist, writer, and political activist. He advocated for Ukraine’s independence, long before the country actually became independent. Even though he could not live to see a free Ukraine, his fervent patriotism, dedication to his country, and his contributions to Ukrainian literature, art, poetry, culture, language, politics and society, made him a celebrated figure around the country even today.
Yesterday, Ukrainians celebrated his birthday.
