President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was welcomed in Copenhagen by “friends of freedom,” while Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared alongside his authoritarian allies at a military parade in Beijing, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal wrote on X.
“While Putin gathers with his authoritarian friends to showcase military power, Zelenskyy is greeted in Copenhagen by true friends of freedom,” Michal said, reaffirming that the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) stands united with Ukraine.
The NB8 regional cooperation format includes Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden.
Zelenskyy arrived in Denmark for bilateral talks with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and meetings with NB8 leaders.
Meanwhile, a large-scale military parade took place in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, marking the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the victory in World War II. More than 20 heads of state attended, including Putin, Kim Jong Un, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, and Slovak PM Robert Fico.
