Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, the development of which has already begun in the European Union, will be tough and will target Russian energy resources.
The statement by the head of Estonia’s foreign policy ministry is cited by ERR, as UATV English reports.
The minister’s comment regarding the upcoming sanctions package came in the context of a change of power in Hungary, where the long-standing government of Viktor Orbán will be replaced by Péter Magyar and his “Tisza” party.
As Margus Tsahkna noted, Europe should take advantage of political changes in Hungary to achieve decisions necessary to support Ukraine.
“The most critical, of course, are the upcoming sanctions packages. The 20th package of sanctions has been adopted, the 21st is being prepared, and it will be quite tough, especially regarding energy resources,” he said.
It is recalled that the Council of the European Union on April 23, through a written procedure, adopted amendments to the EU’s long-term budget for 2021–2027, which will allow providing Ukraine with a €90 billion loan in 2026–2027, as well as the 20th package of EU sanctions against Russia.
The 20th package of sanctions includes more than 100 individual restrictions, increased pressure on the energy sector and the “shadow fleet,” as well as new measures against financial institutions in third countries and companies supporting Russia’s military-industrial complex.
After that, it became known that the European Union has begun work on a new sanctions package against Russia.
