Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala has criticized remarks made by opposition leader Andrej Babiš, head of the ANO movement, regarding the possible cancellation of the Czech-led initiative to supply ammunition to Ukraine.
Speaking at a campaign event in Brno, Fiala called Babiš’s comments on the ammunition initiative “dangerous,” according to ČTK.
Fiala said he was not surprised by Babiš’s position, as the former prime minister has repeatedly criticized the delivery of military aid to Ukraine.
“These are very dangerous things — both for the security of the Czech Republic and for the country’s international standing, as many of our allies are actively participating in this initiative,” Fiala noted.
He emphasized that canceling the initiative would be a “huge mistake.”
Earlier, Andrej Babiš said that if his ANO party wins the upcoming autumn elections, the new government would cancel the ammunition initiative, which is helping deliver artillery shells to Ukraine.
Last year, the Czech-led initiative helped deliver 1.5 million shells to Ukraine, with shipments continuing in 2025.
Recently, Czech President Petr Pavel warned that he cannot guarantee continued military support for Ukraine after the parliamentary elections scheduled for October this year.
