President Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to propose an energy agreement to his American counterpart, Donald Trump, during their meeting.
This was reported by AP, citing Ukrainian officials.
According to the agency’s sources, Zelenskyy intends to offer Trump a plan for the U.S. to store American liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Ukraine’s underground gas storage facilities.
This would allow the United States to maintain a presence in the European energy market.
Zelenskyy presented this strategy on Thursday during meetings with Energy Secretary Chris Wright and executives from American energy companies.
Following these meetings, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of restoring Ukraine’s energy infrastructure after Russian attacks and expanding “the presence of American businesses in Ukraine.”
As a reminder, on October 17, Zelenskyy arrived at the White House for a meeting with Trump.
Ahead of the talks, he expressed hope that “the momentum that helped to curb terror and war in the Middle East will also contribute to ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.”
According to media reports, the Ukrainian president was surprised by news of Trump’s conversation with the Kremlin leader and their agreement to hold a meeting in Hungary.
