On March 20, Ukraine and the EU officials discussed military, economic and humanitarian situation in Ukraine and ‘review Ukraine’s steady progress on its EU path’.
Denys Shmyhal has reported a ‘productive’ meeting on his Telegram channel.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Ukrainian PM talked about:
- further military assistance with the European Peace Facility and the EU Defence Insurance Strategy;
- the Global Peace Summit preparations;
- negotiations on Ukraine’s access to the EU.
The other vital issue discussed is frozen Russian assets as today Josep Borrell had presented his offer to use 90% of profits from frozen Russian assets to supply weapons to Ukraine.
‘90% will be allocated via the European Peace Facility and 10% via the EU budget. I look forward to a rapid adoption by the Council. This will demonstrate the EU unity and commitment to support Ukraine and its people,’ said Borrell on X.
This plan is expected to be approved by all EU members while not all countries were ready to seize the actual Russian assets. For example, Germany and France saw it legally unrealistic.
