US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken named the reason for his working visit to Ukraine. According to him, US President Joe Biden asked for confirmation of the support of Ukraine by the United States.
This was reported by UA with reference to a joint briefing by Anthony Blinken and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
“Why did I come to Kyiv? First of all, to confirm the support of Ukraine, which is faced with Russian aggression. President Biden asked me to come to reiterate my support. We are continuing our diplomatic efforts to prevent a major escalation” – the US Secretary of State said.
He also noted that during the visit he informed the Ukrainian side about the negotiations on the so-called “security guarantees” with Russia, which also concern Ukraine.
To remind, on January 19, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with Secretary of State of the United States of America Anthony Blinken. During the talks, the interlocutors discussed the economic and financial cooperation between the countries, as well as the process of de-escalation of the situation around Ukraine.
