Ukrainian ombudswoman Liudmyla Denisova said that a Crimean Tatar political prisoner, a participant in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case, Teymur Abdullayev, was placed in a pre-trial detention center with appalling conditions. Denisova called it torture on part of the administration of the Russian colony. She wrote about this on her Facebook page, UA reports.
According to her, Abdullayev was placed in a solitary confinement in a semi-basement. There is high humidity and unsanitary conditions there. Denisova called on her Russian counterpart Tatiana Moskalkova to react immediately and ensure that Abdullayev’s rights are respected. And Ukraine’s international partners are stepping up pressure on the Kremlin to release all illegally detained Ukrainians.
“Teymur’s constant detention in a pre-trial detention center is a form of psychological pressure, it equates to torture and is a direct violation of Articles 2 and 3 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms – the right to life. He spent more than a year and a half, including almost two months in special conditions” – the ombudswoman explained.

It should be noted that Teymur Abdullayev is being held in the VK-2 penal isolator (Salavat, Bashkortostan, Russia). In August of 2020, he was briefly transferred to a cell with harsh conditions, and in November-December he was quarantined due to COVID-19. Abdullayev spends the rest of his time in a pre-trial detention center.
In 2019, according to an illegal court decision in Russia, Teymur Abdullayev received 16 years and 6 months in prison, with administrative supervision for 1 year and 4 months.
