The assessment mission of the International Monetary Fund will start working in Ukraine in a virtual format in the second half of September.
Director of the Communications Department of the International Monetary Fund Jerry Rice said that the IMF is ready to work with the Ukrainian authorities in the future to implement the agreements defined by the current stand-by program to conduct an inspection and allocate the next tranche.
He stated this during a briefing at the headquarters of the Fund in Washington, UA reports citing Ukrinform.
Rice said what the mission would be doing. It will focus on issues of National Bank of Ukraine independence, reforms and strengthening anti-corruption institutions.
“We will focus on issues related to strengthening the management and autonomy of the National Bank of Ukraine, reforms in the judiciary, restoring and strengthening the anti-corruption structure, as well as ensuring a sustainable fiscal position, etc” – Rice said.
He also cannot name any timing for the allocation of the next tranche for Ukraine or a possible continuation of the program.
“We need to complete the discussions that are now actively ongoing” – added Jerry Rice. To remind, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that the IMF mission will arrive in Ukraine on September 18. This will most likely be an online mission.
