Ukraine is commemorating the victims of the Olenivka prison attack, in which more than 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed and over 100 others injured after an explosion at the Russian-controlled detention facility on the night of July 28–29, 2022.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine remembers every victim and continues efforts to secure the release of all Ukrainians still held in Russian captivity.

“Ukraine remembers every one of them and is doing everything possible to bring home all our people from captivity — both military personnel and civilians,” Zelenskyy said.

According to the president, 9,613 people have been returned from Russian captivity since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
