British defense company BAE Systems has signed a licensing agreement with a strategic Ukrainian partner to localize the production of 105 mm L119 Light Gun artillery systems in Ukraine, UATV English reports.
The agreement was announced during the Farnborough International Airshow and marks another step in expanding Ukraine’s domestic defense manufacturing capabilities.
Under the deal, BAE Systems will provide technical documentation, support the production of the first artillery piece and assist with its testing. The partnership also includes the development of a version of the L119 howitzer tailored to the operational requirements of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
The L119 is a 105 mm towed light artillery system developed by BAE Systems. It is widely used for its mobility, reliability and rapid deployment capabilities.
According to the company, the agreement is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities while building a sustainable domestic industrial base capable of supporting the country’s armed forces over the long term.
“Supporting Ukraine is not just about supplying equipment. It is also about working together to develop the industrial resilience, skills and capability needed to sustain defense capacity over the long term,” BAE Systems said.
The company noted that the agreement builds on its investments in artillery production in the United Kingdom, including the restoration of domestic manufacturing capacity and continued production of British-designed 105 mm and 155 mm artillery barrels for Ukraine.
