Russia is intensifying its hybrid campaign against Poland through daily cyberattacks, large-scale disinformation operations and cyber espionage targeting the country’s institutions, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski said, UATV English reports.
Speaking to RMF24, Gawkowski described the situation as an ongoing hybrid war against Poland.
“Russia is at war with Poland. This is a real hybrid war that is already underway,” he said.
According to the minister, Polish information systems, including critical infrastructure, face hundreds and sometimes thousands of cyberattack attempts every day.
Gawkowski said Russia has significantly expanded its information operations against Poland, using troll farms, bot networks, messaging platforms and social media to spread disinformation and destabilize the country.
He also warned of a new cyber espionage campaign in which attackers impersonate senior Polish government officials. Fake accounts using officials’ names, photographs and other personal details have appeared on Signal and WhatsApp, targeting government agencies, research institutes and state-owned companies in attempts to obtain sensitive information or influence recipients’ actions.
“We are dealing with deliberate actions by intelligence services, particularly Russian ones, aimed at destabilizing the situation through various means, including operations conducted via messaging platforms,” Gawkowski said.
The deputy prime minister said the government has already issued recommendations to public institutions and state-owned enterprises on how to respond to such impersonation attempts.
He also urged Polish citizens to critically assess information circulating online, warning that Russia and Belarus are exploiting every available communication channel to spread disinformation and undermine stability in Poland.
The warning comes amid broader concerns in Warsaw over increased Russian hybrid activity, including cyber operations, influence campaigns and heightened military activity near Poland’s borders.
