Ukrainian servicemembers led the military parade in Brussels marking Belgium’s National Day on July 21, underscoring Belgium’s continued support for Ukraine as Russia’s full-scale war enters its fourth year, UATV English reports.
The participation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the parade marked the first time a Ukrainian military unit has taken part in Belgium’s National Day celebrations.
Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken said the country was proud to welcome Ukrainian troops to the event.
“This is the first time a Ukrainian unit has participated in the July 21 parade, and we are very proud of it,” Francken said.
The appearance of Ukrainian soldiers at the head of the parade served as a symbolic demonstration of Belgium’s and the European Union’s continued political and military backing for Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing aggression.
Belgium has remained one of Ukraine’s key European partners, providing military assistance, training for Ukrainian troops and support for international initiatives aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
