President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he spoke with newly appointed UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham to congratulate him on taking office, adding that Britain reaffirmed its unwavering support for Ukraine, UATV English reports.
In a statement, Zelenskyy thanked Burnham for his words of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and for expressing condolences to the families of those killed in Russia’s recent missile attacks.
“I highly appreciate that support for Ukraine and our people will remain strong,” Zelenskyy said.
The president noted that Ukraine and the United Kingdom have built what he described as the strongest partnership in the history of bilateral relations and pledged to further deepen cooperation.
Zelenskyy said the two leaders agreed to hold an in-person meeting in the near future to discuss continued cooperation, including joint work within the Anti-Ballistic Coalition aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
“Ukraine and Britain have managed to build the strongest partnership in the history of relations between our two countries, and we will certainly continue working to make it even stronger,” Zelenskyy said.
The call marks one of Burnham’s first conversations with a foreign leader since formally assuming office as UK prime minister and signals continuity in London’s support for Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing full-scale invasion.
