Andy Burnham officially became the United Kingdom’s prime minister on Monday after being appointed by King Charles III, and pledged that Britain’s support for Ukraine would remain unwavering, UATV English reports.
Burnham assumed office following an audience with the King at Buckingham Palace, days after being elected leader of the Labour Party to succeed Keir Starmer.
According to Sky News, the new prime minister reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Ukraine during his first day in office, signaling continuity in London’s policy toward Kyiv.
Burnham takes office amid continued Russian attacks on Ukraine and follows a government that played a leading role in military and financial assistance to Kyiv, including support through the Coalition of the Willing and the Ukraine Support Loan initiative.
