Nearly 2.5 million Armenian citizens are eligible to vote in the country’s parliamentary elections, according to data from the Central Election Commission of Armenia, UATV English reports.

Although opinions among residents of Yerevan vary, most said they definitely plan to vote, and many have already decided which political force they will support.

“I will definitely go and vote… It is very important to vote for Armenia,” said Yerevan resident Ruzanna.

Many voters are placing high hopes on the emergence of new political leadership.

“I want the new government to be kind, honest, and to do good for its people. Our poor people. We have spent our whole lives at war. Maybe now we can finally live a little,” another Yerevan resident, Navel, said.

Some observers note that these are the first elections in a long time that have not been preceded by a revolution, war, or major political upheaval.

“For the first time, these are free elections that are not taking place after a revolution or a war, but simply normal elections. The propaganda is enormous and coming from everywhere, but I think everyone will make their choice according to their conscience,” said David.

As a reminder, voting in Armenia’s parliamentary elections began today, June 7. Polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m. local time, with 2,005 polling stations operating across the country. Under Armenian law, no overseas polling stations are being opened.
