Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has published an open letter addressed to the President of the Russian Federation, outlining Ukraine’s position on the ongoing war and its consequences for Russia.
In the letter, Zelenskyy stated that regardless of Moscow’s arguments about NATO, geopolitics, or language, the war is a personal decision made by the Russian leadership, UATV English reports.
“Whatever you say about NATO, geopolitics, and the Russian language, this war is your personal choice — a war without real justification,” Zelenskyy said.
He also pointed to growing internal pressures within Russia, including economic strain and dissatisfaction among the population, citing fuel shortages, rising prices, restrictions, and the prospect of further mobilization.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukrainian intelligence has reported significant Russian military losses. He claimed that more than 30,000 Russian soldiers were killed or seriously wounded in May alone, stating that similar figures are being recorded monthly.
The president added that Russia continues to miss its own deadlines for capturing Ukrainian territory, particularly in the Donetsk region, asserting that these goals will not be achieved.
“Do not be afraid to end the war — this is the main thing required from you now,” he stated.
Zelenskyy also highlighted international support for Ukraine and increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, referencing political figures such as Viktor Orbán as an example of the reputational consequences of aligning with Moscow.
He further claimed that the war has been partially brought onto Russian territory and noted Russia’s growing reliance on external partners.
“You are the first Russian leader who has to seek help from Pyongyang. You are completely dependent on China — also for the first time in Russian history,” Zelenskyy wrote.
The letter concludes with a direct appeal to end the war and reconsider the current course of action.
