Canada should use its international influence to accelerate Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the European Union, said Canadian Senator Stan Kutcher in an interview with Ukrinform.
“Canada must continue to convince its allies of the need to grant Ukraine full membership in the EU and NATO. If Ukraine were already in NATO, we wouldn’t be talking about war today,” Kutcher stated.
He added that Ukraine’s European integration process has already improved governance and strengthened institutions, while full membership would also benefit both organizations:
“Ukraine’s experience in modern warfare — especially in countering drones — is invaluable,” the senator emphasized. “Canada must use its diplomatic influence to speed up Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the EU.”
Earlier, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said during her address at the UN General Assembly’s 80th session in New York that:
“Ukraine can count on our long-term support.”
