Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned Russia’s violation of Polish airspace by drones, saying Moscow seeks to prolong the war in Ukraine by refusing a peaceful resolution.

“Russia’s breach of Polish airspace was reckless and escalatory. Canada stands with Poland and NATO allies. We are coordinating closely with them and will closely monitor any attempts by Russia to expand and prolong the conflict against Ukraine,” Carney wrote on X.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Putin shows complete disregard for the path of peace.

“Russia’s actions — following a week of deadly strikes on Ukrainian civilians — highlight the importance of unwavering support for Ukraine. To bring lasting peace to Ukraine and Europe, we must increase pressure on Putin to end the war,” he said.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand also condemned the drone incursion:

“During a night strike on Ukraine, Russian drones violated the airspace of Poland and NATO. This is another outrageous example of Putin’s refusal to seek peace. Canada stands fully in solidarity with Poland and Ukraine. We continue to call on Russia to end this unjust and illegal war,” Anand wrote on X.

Polish forces reported 19 drones violating the country’s airspace overnight, intercepting around four. Following the incident, NATO invoked Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty, allowing consultations among members when a country’s territorial integrity, political independence, or security is threatened.
