Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated, in connection with the incursion of Russian drones into Polish territory, that a weak response to this would further embolden Russia.
He wrote about this on the social network X.
Sybiha noted that Russian drone flights into Poland during a massive attack on Ukraine show that Putin’s sense of impunity continues to grow, as he has not been properly punished for his previous crimes.
“Putin continues to escalate, expands the war, and tests the West’s resolve. The longer he sees no strength in response, the more aggressive he becomes. A weak response now will provoke Russia even more — and then Russian missiles and drones will fly further into Europe,” the minister wrote.
He stressed the need to adopt a decision that would allow neighboring countries’ air defense systems to intercept drones and missiles in Ukrainian airspace, including those approaching NATO borders.
“Ukraine has long proposed such a step. It must be taken for the sake of collective security,” Sybiha emphasized.
He also called on partners to urgently strengthen Ukraine’s air defense to better defend against the growing number of Russian drones and missiles.
“In addition, sanctions must be strengthened without delay. Putin will take peace negotiations seriously only when he faces serious transatlantic pressure. Russia’s war machine must be stopped — and it can only be stopped by strength, not weakness,” Sybiha declared.

As is known, on the night of September 10, Poland confirmed the violation of its airspace by Russian drones during a massive attack on Ukraine, and for the first time shot them down. The army warned citizens about heightened threats in the Mazovian, Podlaskie, and Lublin voivodeships.
Later, the downing of several drones was confirmed, with explanations that such an unprecedented decision was made due to an act of aggression and a threat to citizens’ safety. The number of drones shot down was not specified; official statements have so far avoided direct mention that these were Russian Shahed drones, limiting themselves to explaining that these objects entered Poland during Russia’s massive strike on Ukraine.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk informed NATO about the unprecedented violation of the country’s airspace by Russian drones.
In connection with these events, operations were suspended at four airports, including Warsaw and Rzeszów.
