President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced negotiations with U.S. representatives in Berlin on Sunday, UATV English reports.
He made the statement during an online briefing with journalists while traveling to Berlin.
He said he had “received all the signals” regarding the latest U.S. proposals for a peace plan and is ready for a dialogue “that will begin today.”
“Today we have a Ukrainian-American day in Berlin. Of course, I will separately meet with Chancellor Merz, and probably in the evening I will also meet with some of our European leaders,” Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy has still not received a response from the United States to his latest peace plan proposals
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this while responding to questions from journalists that he received via the Presidential Office press service chat.
According to Zelenskyy, the so-called Ukrainian-American day begins today in Berlin. Meetings are planned with Chancellor Merz and several European leaders.
“The plan will not be one that everyone will like; naturally, there are many compromises in one format or another,” Zelenskyy said.
“The most important thing is that the plan be as fair as possible — first and foremost for Ukraine. And above all, that it be effective,” the president emphasized.
If the United States applies pressure and truly seeks to end the war, Russia will be forced to compromise, Zelenskyy said.
According to the President of Ukraine, after Jared Kushner was brought into the negotiation process, a separate economic track emerged — security guarantees and Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Zelenskyy emphasized that there is no direct dialogue with the Russian side. In negotiations with the United States, the American side conveys Russia’s position — its actions, demands, and its readiness or unwillingness to compromise.
Ukraine will review a 20-point plan in Berlin, which concludes with a ceasefire, Zelenskyy added.
The President of Ukraine continues responding to journalists’ questions:
Ukraine’s accession to NATO had been considered a real security guarantee, but some partners in the United States and Europe did not support this approach.
The economic track in the negotiations is represented by Ukraine’s Minister of Economy and the Prime Minister. Security issues are handled by intelligence representatives and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Compromise on Donbas: Ukrainian Armed Forces are leaving this territory, and Russians are not entering it, says Zelenskyy.
Other statements by the president:
- Ukraine and Belarus held intelligence-level talks on the transfer of political prisoners.
- On Friday, the Ukrainian leader will meet with Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
- Deputies must develop options for holding elections in the near future.
According to media reports, U.S. representatives arrived in Berlin on Sunday morning for another round of negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will meet with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin.
The Americans’ invitation to the Berlin meeting came after a tense phone call on Wednesday between Merz, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, and Donald Trump, during which the parties attempted to overcome disagreements regarding the direction of the peace efforts.
