Ukraine and Sweden have signed a Letter of Intent on defense innovation partnership, opening new opportunities for the development of Ukraine’s defense industry, UATV English reports, according to a statement by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

Shmyhal noted that the document will accelerate new formats of cooperation and help integrate Ukraine into the European defense innovation and industrial ecosystem.

During their meeting, Shmyhal and Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air capabilities, including potential deliveries of Swedish Gripen fighter jets.

Shmyhal proposed exploring joint development of surface-to-air missile interceptors and the co-production of radar systems.

The ministers also focused on additional ways to reinforce Ukraine’s air defense.

“We would be grateful for additional missiles for our systems,” Shmyhal said.

He thanked Sweden for its consistent support since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Sweden has already provided over $9 billion in assistance and plans to allocate another $8 billion over the next two years.

Shmyhal also expressed gratitude for Sweden’s participation in the PURL initiative, as well as in the Danish model, under which Ukraine’s Armed Forces received 400 deep-strike attack drones.
