Prime Minister of Ukraine at a meeting with President of the European Commission: We are getting closer to our goal – Ukraine’s full membership in the EU

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who is on a working visit to Kyiv. Also attending the meeting were Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Oksana Zholnovych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi, and Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko.

“Your visit is a strong signal of support for Ukraine’s European integration aspirations and a clear evidence of our continued fruitful cooperation. We are bringing closer the realisation of our ambitious goal – Ukraine’s full membership in the EU,” the Head of the Ukrainian Government stressed.

Denys Shmyhal and Ursula von der Leyen touched upon the issue of exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to the European Union. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the support of the initiative of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to establish a coordination group to monitor the relevant issues.  

The parties also addressed the implementation of the seven recommendations of the European Commission identified during the process of obtaining candidate status.

“We have reached the final stage in the implementation of the seven recommendations. To achieve sustainable results in their fulfilment, we are closely cooperating with the European Union at all levels,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine and the President of the European Commission also touched upon the work of the Interagency Donor Coordination Platform.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Ursula von der Leyen for her personal leadership in supporting Ukraine and the European Commission for its substantial comprehensive assistance.
