Lublin Triangle: Prime Ministers of Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland signed a joint statement

The Prime Ministers of Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine held a meeting in Kyiv within the framework of the Lublin Triangle. Denys Shmygal received Mateusz Morawiecki and Ingrida Simonyte in the Ukrainian capital on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holodomor. The result was a joint statement in which politicians called on the international community to recognize as a common goal the liberation of the entire temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, as well as to accelerate the process of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the EU, FREEDOM reports.

The signing ceremony of the joint statement of the heads of government on the results of the meeting within the framework of the Lublin Triangle took place on November 26, 2022. The statement was signed by Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Ingrida Simonyte, and Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

The Lublin Triangle is a diplomatic platform uniting Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland. The Alliance was created in Lublin in 2020 and subsequently the parties met several times to discuss common initiatives.

The second meeting of the heads of government of the three countries within the framework of the Lublin Triangle was held in Kyiv. The main topic of the statements is issues related to countering the aggression of the Russian Federation, investigating its war crimes and bringing those responsible to justice, further strengthening military, financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine from allied countries:

“We have identified several priorities. The first and unconditional is the victory of Ukraine in the war, of course. Restoration of our territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders. We received assurances from our friends and colleagues that they would be with us continuously until the very victory,” Shmyhal said.

The prime ministers of Lithuania and Poland confirmed their readiness to intensify negotiations in NATO at the summit in Vilnius on Ukraine, as well as negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. The politicians also stated that they intend to strengthen military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

Thus, Lithuania has prepared a new assistance package for the energy sector of Ukraine for more than 2 million euros.

“Truck convoys will continue to deliver unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), warm clothes for the Ukrainian military, heating stations and generators and other necessary and necessary things to Ukraine to help the Ukrainian people survive a very difficult winter and bring our victory closer!” Shimonite emphasized.

If Russia can win in Ukraine, the whole of Europe will lose, said Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. He urged European countries not to delay in providing assistance to Ukraine, since the threat from Russia was noticed too late.

Also, the Polish Prime Minister during his visit to Kyiv honored the memory of the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933. And during the briefing, he stressed that Russia is responsible for the artificial famine it organized 90 years ago in Ukraine, as well as now, in the 21st century, for the famine that threatens the countries of Africa and Southeast Asia without Ukrainian grain.

“The fact that Russia is blocking Ukrainian ports does not only mean blocking ports, it means blocking the very humanitarian content of being a person, therefore Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, as well as other countries in Europe and around the world, do not abandon their initiatives, in order to unblock Ukrainian ports, so that Ukrainian grain could be delivered to those countries in Africa, in the East that need it,” Morawiecki said.

The joint document, signed by the heads of government of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine, noted the importance of strengthening sanctions against Russia and Belarus and further international isolation of these countries. According to Ingrida Simonyte, the next meeting of the prime ministers of the three countries within the framework of the Lublin Triangle is scheduled for 2023 – it will be held in Lithuania.
