FREEДОМ: 4 Years on Air — Truth for the World About Ukraine and Our Struggle

On March 10, the Ukrainian international broadcasting channel FREEДОМ, aimed at Russian-speaking audiences abroad, marks four years on air. During this time, thousands of hours of original content* and dozens of premieres have been broadcast.

Today, the FREEДОМ TV channel is available on 6 satellites; more than 20 international and national OTT platforms; and in the networks of over 900 cable, DTH, and IPTV operators in 45 countries worldwide. FREEДОМ content is also accessible on 15 digital international broadcasting platforms and on partners’ platforms. In total, it has already gained over 15 billion digital views**, and this number continues to grow.

FREEДОМ went on air in the first days of the full-scale invasion to promptly deliver the truth about Ukraine and its struggle to the world and to counter hostile propaganda. These tasks remain key for the channel.

“For the international broadcasting team, FREEДОМ represents four years of daily, very challenging work to ensure that Ukraine’s voice in the world grows stronger and that hostile lies and propaganda receive a worthy response. A year ago, international broadcasting began producing the information marathon entirely independently, and now we can say — we have succeeded in this task. We launched several new projects, recently obtained a digital radio license, and in February the FREEДОМ mobile application became available. We are working to strengthen the broadcast channel’s coverage and expand our reach on digital platforms. Last year, we expanded our presence in Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Moldova, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, and the UAE; we signed agreements thanks to which FREEДОМ appeared for the first time in the provider offerings of Albania and Luxembourg. We pay great attention to engagement with our communities. On YouTube, we already have over 3 million subscribers. We increased the number of digital platforms to 15 — in the summer, we launched FREEДОМ. KAVKAZ on TikTok. We see our digital audience growing in EU countries, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. At the same time, despite all restrictions by Russian authorities, the share of views from the Russian Federation remains no lower than 20%,” said Yuliia Bin, Director General of the state enterprise “International Broadcasting Multimedia Platform of Ukraine,” which includes FREEДОМ.

Ukrainian international broadcasting operates under conditions where Russia constantly attempts to interfere with FREEДОМ’s work. Over four years, the channel has repeatedly faced hacker attacks, satellite attacks, and anonymous threats. Unfortunately, last year brought even more severe trials. During filming in Kramatorsk, FREEДОМ military correspondent Aliona Hramova and cameraman Yevhen Karmazin were killed by a Russian drone strike; in Kyiv, a missile attack destroyed the international broadcasting office.

“This year tested our team with very heavy losses and challenges. We always remember Aliona Hramova and Yevhen Karmazin, whom Russia killed while they were doing their job. But the truth for which our colleagues worked has not been and will not be killed by the enemy. Eleven months ago, a Russian missile destroyed our office and FREEДОМ’s studio, but we did not stop broadcasting for a single second. Over this year, we have repeatedly seen how vulnerable the world remains to lies and how emboldened hostile propaganda has become. But we also know that people seek the truth, and our response lies in our work, our results, and our plans for the future,” Yuliia Bin said.

Despite Russia’s attempts to expand propaganda and block internet access, content under the FREEДОМ brand clearly meets the demands of Russian-speaking audiences abroad. Digital viewership data show stable interest from foreign audiences, whose share on YouTube platforms reaches 90%; total YouTube views amount to 2.4 billion, with more than 3 million YouTube subscribers.

In addition to Russia (25%), FREEДОМ YouTube channels**** receive high viewership in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Turkey, Latvia, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and other countries with stable Russian-speaking diasporas. For example, since the beginning of 2026, the top cities abroad with the highest FREEДОМ viewership have included Moscow, Tashkent, Saint Petersburg, Prague, Almaty, Amsterdam, Bishkek, Minsk, Riga, Dushanbe, Samarkand, and Frankfurt.

Over the past year, the most popular short video was a dialogue between Ukrainian journalist Myroslava Petsa and Donald Trump regarding the United States’ readiness to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot systems: over 6 million views, 91.5% from abroad. Statements and comments by Volodymyr Zelenskyy also gained millions of views. In particular, information from the President of Ukraine about meetings with international partners and their support for Ukraine’s fair demands was viewed over 4.3 million times, 93.3% from abroad. A report on the conversation between the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States and its results received 2.3 million views, 93.4% from abroad.

Foreign audiences continue to show strong interest in materials about events on the frontline, as well as reports on criminal shelling by the Russian army of Ukrainian cities, which caused large-scale destruction of critical infrastructure. More than 2 million views were received by an emotional statement from Yurii Fedorenko, commander of the 429th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade “Achilles” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, who emphasized that Russian soldiers are not blind executors but conscious executioners who deliberately target residential buildings and schools at night.

In total, over four years, materials under the FREEДОМ brand across all digital platforms of international broadcasting and on the platforms of partner Ukrainian media groups 1+1 media, Starlight Media, and Inter Media Group have received 15 billion views, of which 4.1 billion were on international broadcasting digital platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Telegram, TikTok, X). The total number of subscribers to FREEДОМ digital platforms currently stands at 3.7 million.

In 2025, the state enterprise “IBMPU” strengthened FREEДОМ’s programming with project lines aimed at informing the global community about key events in Ukraine, initiatives of the Ukrainian state to achieve a stable peace, international support for Ukraine, frontline developments, countering Russian propaganda, and supporting ideas of decolonization and decentralization of Russia. Several original premiere projects of Ukrainian international broadcasting were launched during the year.

The international broadcasting team is also actively developing the specialized YouTube channel FREEДОМ. KAVKAZ, which addresses the historical memory and national self-awareness of the indigenous peoples of the Caucasus and exposes the Kremlin’s colonial policy. The channel currently has 85,000 subscribers and 84 million views. The most popular material of the year was a video by Ali, a representative of the Chechen Sheikh Mansur Battalion, discussing how Russians humiliate the indigenous peoples of the Caucasus: 2.3 million views, 91.9% from abroad. Overall, the highest viewership last year for FREEДОМ. KAVKAZ came from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Germany, the Netherlands, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan. The top cities included Moscow, Grozny, Almaty, Tashkent, Makhachkala, Baku, Dushanbe, and Amsterdam. Last year, MPIU also launched the FREEДОМ. KAVKAZ TikTok account, which has already reached 8 million views.
