In the Russian Federation, after the Soviet era, it was not possible to form a civil society, and Vladimir Putin, becoming president, stopped the development of democratic ideas. Political expert, political scientist, publicist Ihor Eidman spoke about this today, August 8, on the air of FREEDOM TV channel.

“Civil society in Russia has not been formed since Soviet times, it was destroyed even by the Bolsheviks. Then there were attempts to form during the time of perestroika, in the early 90s, but it all ended. Already in the 90s, it all went according to a not-so-best scenario, the idea of democracy was saddled by the oligarchic top, who bought politicians, journalists, etc., he said.

For his part, Putin, as president, put a “fat point” in the idea of a democratic Russia, says a political expert.

“He trampled the democratic sprouts that broke through during Gorbachev’s perestroika and established an initially authoritarian, but now almost totalitarian regime,” said Eidman.

He also emphasized that in the conditions of totalitarianism, few people dare to go out and protest against the regime.

“This has always been the case in all countries. Let us recall the Soviet Union during Stalin’s time or Hitler’s Germany, Italy, Mussolini, etc. That is, to protest in conditions when you know that your protest is doomed, that you will not have time to open your mouth, as they will gag you with a rubber baton… Secondly, that you will not be able to convey anything to the people and will simply go to prison for a long time, — only units are ready for this. And I wonder and admire these people. Because it is planted almost every day by people protesting against the war,” Ihor Eidman summed up.
