Europe is now closer to war than at any time in the last 30 years. This opinion was expressed by Polish Foreign Minister and head of the OSCE Zbigniew Rau at the opening of the OSCE Permanent Council.
This is reported by UA with reference to Reuters.
Rau did not explicitly name Russia in his address to the organization’s 57 member countries, but did mention tensions in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Moldova.
“It looks like the risk of war in the OSCE region is now greater than at any time in the past 30 years” – he said.
Zbigniew Rau added that in recent weeks there has been the prospect of a large-scale military escalation in Eastern Europe.
The meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council is de facto the third stage of negotiations with Russia, which is pulling its troops and equipment to the borders of Ukraine and demands NATO guarantees that the Alliance will not expand to the east.
Ukraine is also participating in the negotiations. Prior to that, on January 10, a Russia-US summit was held and on January 12, a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council.
To remind, Jens Stoltenberg previously said that during the negotiations in Brussels there was a serious discussion regarding Ukraine.
